  18. To all posters, readers and lurkers:

  20. Once again, I have to explain the purpose and reason for this
  21. newsgroup.
  22.  
  23. This group was created with the intention of allowing people to post
  24. their personal UFO experiences/sightings, without any bias or
  25. subjective interpretations. This does not mean that posts here are
  26. necessarily about observations of alien spacecraft. Most UFOs turn out
  27. to be misidentifications - honest mistakes. Some could be aircraft
  28. (secret or otherwise), others are bolides, others are balloons or
  29. anything else you might want to include in a category of IFO.
  30.  
  31. The reality is that *a small percentage* of UFO reports do not have a
  32. simple explanation. This does not mean they are spaceships, but only
  33. that they cannot be explained easily. Basically, we need the data
  34. before we can interpret them according to various theories.
  35.  
  36. The only way this can be achieved is through the collection of UFO
  37. reports in an objective, organized manner. It seemed that allowing
  38. witnesses to post on the I-way was a logical possibility.

  40. It still is, but discussion threads about John Lear, MJ12 and the Mars
  41. Face outnumber UFO reports here.
